Will my insurance cover this?

In many cases yes. We will work with your insurance adjuster to determine what services are covered under your insurance policy.

What should be my first concern?

Safety is of primary importance. Water near electric outlets and appliances pose a serious risk of shock. Beyond that the source of the problem needs to be corrected before full restoration can begin.

It's 2:00 AM. Can this wait until morning?

Generally the cleanup can begin in the morning. Obviously you need to stop the source of the problem right away if at all possible. If a broken water pipe is to blame, the water to the house might need to be turned off until a plumber can fix it.

How long will it take?

The initial drying period generally takes 2-5 days. Any damage to walls, floors and ceilings can be repaired when your home is dry. The entire process often takes less than 10 days.

Should I move my furniture out of the affected rooms?

Yes, this will prevent them from absorbing additional moisture or staining of carpet and will be required to dry the floor completely.

Will my small carpet cleaner or shop-vac be sufficient?

Probably not. Water causes serious damage to walls, floors and ceilings which require not only water extraction from the carpet fibers but also restoring the humidity level of your home. We use industrial machines capable of extracting as much water from your flooded carpet as possible. Further de-humidifiers and air movement are required to dry walls, floors and ceilings adequately to control mold and mildew growth.

Why is the carpet pad often replaced but not the carpet?

Most carpets are nylon and are closely related to plastics which can be adequately dried and cleaned. Carpet pad however acts much like a sponge and holds large amounts of water. Since it is so difficult to dry the pad adequately after a flood, microbial lifeforms can be nurtured which is not what you want growing under your carpet.
